Create lasting memories whilst remembering days of old at Mt Evelyn’s Street Party, on Sunday October 29, from 10am to 4pm. The town’s shopping strip will be closed to traffic to make way for the people, who flood Wray Crescent for the biennial 1950s event.
Imagine a 1950s street fair in Australia; freshly‐waxed cars rumble in, families are dressed in their Sunday best; farm animals are on show; over‐sized ribbons decorate the street and children are ushered by parents and teachers before singing on stage in the morning. Mt Evelyn Street Party is this and more. Pin up kings and queens compete for the titles of Mr and Miss Mt Evelyn in the Pin‐up Competition and for those who prefer something less formal but still want to show off their 1950s styling, the fashion parade gives everyone the chance to strut their stuff.
Beginning with a Street Parade at 10am, roving performers and people in 50s outfits will keep up the energy all day long. Featuring hula hoop artist Miss Malis Walsh, who has performed for Mick Jagger (who held her hands and told her she was amazing!), performed 38 weeks pregnant, and received a standing ovation from a sold out crowd at Edinburgh Fringe as a newcomer ‐ though not all at the same time! Nick Prelorenzo will grace the stage with his incredible tenor voice, before rock’n’roll bands get everyone in the mood to dance.
Dance demonstrations, a buskers stage and a variety of classic cars will show everyone what the 1950s had to offer. Free and low cost activities will be abound, including trackless train rides kindly provided by Children’s House of Early Learning and an animal petting farm through the generosity of Mt Evelyn IGA. There’ll be pony rides, face painting and many other activities offered by stall holders. You’ll find plenty of market and food stalls, as well as local cafes celebrating alongside us.
Around the perimeter of the main stage area you’ll be able to meet our many local community out. On Sunday October 29 th 2017 from 10am to 3pm, Wray crescent in Mount Evelyn is going to be filled with fun, laughter and be the place to create new reminiscing of old.
