Earlier this year the Mt Evelyn Community House was successful in obtaining the Yarra Ranges Council tender to deliver the Mt Evelyn Community Reading Room service (former Library) in partnership with Eastern Region Libraries.
The Reading Room is now open 30 hours per week under the co-ordination of Liz who has been busy recruiting, inducting and training our passionate team of volunteers. You can borrow and return books, DVDs, audio books, graphic novels and magazines, and pick up any item you have reserved through the catalogue. At the moment we have a selection of books on display available for borrowing as part of the Premiers Reading Challenge.
The Reading Room has free wifi and you can utilise the four computers, printer, photocopier and scanner during opening hours. Our customer service focused volunteers and staff are always available to help with enquiries. During the evenings and weekends there is an after-hours book chute for you to return your items.
The first of selection of programs have begun, based on community suggestions and need. Currently Tuesday afternoons is the crochet social group from 1:30pm, and Thursdays from 2pm to 5pm there is free Tech Help for anyone with questions regarding their laptop, mobile and/or tablet.
‘We have some programs coming soon including an adult’s book group; children’s night time story time, with a cup of hot chocolate; and story time yoga for 3-5 year old children, which will begin in Term 3 on Friday mornings. If you would like to know more about these programs or book a spot drop in to 50 Wray Crescent, or call us on 9736 1177.
