Friends of Water Race and Quinn Reserve are holding a Weed Trade Day on Sunday May 7. It will be held on the corners of Marcus Street, Falkingham Road and Quinn Crescent from 10am until 2pm.
Everyone is invited to come along and take part in this fun local event to reduce the impact of environmental weeds on Quinn Reserve, the Water Race Reserve and our local area.
Bring in bags of your environmental weeds and trade them for free native plants for your garden. This year target weeds include Ivy, Japanese Honeysuckle, Blackberry, Periwinkle and Angled Onions. If you need bags for transporting weeds, Friends of Water Race and Quinn Reserve can provide them in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, or on the day.
There will be many activities throughout the day including a free sausage sizzle at approximately 12noon, the opportunity to do some trackside weeding of invasive species and re-planting of indigenous species in Quinn Reserve (weather permitting), a short guided walk of the Reserve, receiving advice about vegetation management, learning more about the Friends of Water Race and Quinn Reserve and where they are making progress in their projects, as well as meeting and catching up with friends.
Please ensure you are dresses well for the weather including strong footwear, and if you are intending to help with weeding bring secateurs, wear gloves and protective eyewear.
