Saturday November 26 saw the last Mt Evelyn Community Market of the year, and they had a lot to celebrate.
The market has been going for two and a half years and has been steadily growing, with last Saturday being their biggest market ever. Having over 30 stalls inside and outside the RSL Hall on Birmingham Rd, they literally couldn’t fit any more in.
Since its beginning, the market has been open to small businesses and sole traders, which has allowed them to showcase a wide range of products and services including cookware, kids clothes, hair and beauty products, food, artworks, plants, travel services, soaps, candles, jewellery, wood turning, not-for-profit organisations, community groups, books and a lot more.
It’s also been supporting the Mt Evelyn RSL. Every month, stall holder fees go towards the ongoing welfare programs the Mt Evelyn RSL is committed to such as visiting ex-service people in nursing homes and hospitals, and the organisation of a weekly afternoon social for retired members.
They also use the funds to make improvements or add better facilities to the hall, which then goes on to help the wider community as it is used to host various community groups and community events.
The Mt Evelyn Community Market will return in February 2017 and continue to run on the 4th Saturday of each month.
